The Egyptians wrote in hieroglyphs using symbols for both numbers and words

There were different hieroglyphs for 1, 10, 100, 1,000, 10,000, 100,000 and 1,000,000

Egyptian 1


 = 1

 

Egyptian 10


= 10

 

Egyptian 100


 = 100

 

Egyptian 1000

 

 = 1,000

 

 

Egyptian 10000


 = 10,000

 

 


 = 100,000


 

Egyptian 1000,000


 = 1,000,000

 

 

Numbers were written with the highest number first

For example:

1,111 = Egyptian 1000Egyptian 100Egyptian 10Egyptian 1

200,250 = Egyptian 100Egyptian 100Egyptian 10Egyptian 10Egyptian 10Egyptian 10Egyptian 10
