Herbert John Pitman was the Third Officer on board the Titanic. He was 34 years old.

Pitman was asleep when Titanic struck the iceberg. He was woken by Boxhall and helped to load the lifeboats.

He left the ship in charge of lifeboat 5 and although he wanted to return for survivors he was dissuaded by other passengers.

Pitman gave evidence at the inquiry.

He died in 1961.
