Joseph Grove Boxhall

 

Joseph Boxhall was Fourth Officer on board the Titanic. He was 28 years old.

On the night of the disaster Boxhall was on duty when the ship hit the iceberg. After surveying the damage he was sent to uncover the lifeboats.

He also tried, unsuccessfully to contact the nearby ship Californian with a morse lamp and helped to fire the rockets.

Boxhall took charge of lifeboat no.2 which left Titanic at 1.45am. He survived the disaster and was called to give evidence at both the British and American inquiries.

He died in 1967 at the age of 83.
