Rose DuWitt Bukater was not a real person, she was invented by James Cameron for the movie Titanic, 1997. The character of Rose was aged 17 years.  She was sailing with her mother, Ruth and her fiance, Cal Hockley.

Disillusioned with the pressures of upper class society, Rose falls in love with third class passenger Jack Dawson. Rose refuses to board a lifeboat and both she and Jack go down with the ship.

Rose clambers onto a piece of furniture and is rescued when a lifeboat returns to look for survivors.

She changes her name to Rose Dawson, becomes an actress and eventually marries.

She dies at the age of 101 after re-telling her story to the salvage crew.
