Thomas Andrews was the Managing Director of Harland and Wolff and the chief designer. He was 38 years old, married with a daughter. After the ship hit the iceberg, Andrews was called to the bridge to assess the damage. Andrews reported that with five of the water-tight compartments flooded Titanic would sink within two hours. Andrews spent the next two hours wandering around the ship encouraging people to put their lifebelts on. He was last seen in the first-class smoking room staring at a painting. Thomas Andrews did not survive the disaster. |
