Our gallant warship Maine to Cuba's shore she came,
To protect our right but in a friendly way,
No treach'ry in her heart from the time that she did start,
Ever watchful at her post both night and day,
While the stars were shining bright and the crew turn'd in for night;
And softly by her sides the waves did splash,
There came a roaring sound that shook Havanna town
And our gallant Maine blew up with a crash

[chorus]
Our gallant warship Maine,
She will never sail again,
To protect our noble flag and country too;
Many homes are sad tonight,
Uncle Sam will surely fight,
To avenge our noble sailor boys so true.

Of Captain Sigsbee we can boast who stood nobly at his post,
Upon the ship that he had lov'd so dear,
His crew stood close at hand when he gave the cool command;
To launch the boats and pull for shore so near,
No fear was in his heart as he watch'd each boat depart,
Till upon her noble deck he stood alone,
Though she was sinking fast he was faithfull to the last
When he left her from his lips there came a moan.

[repeat chorus]
