Death Song of "The Titanic"

[verse 1]
Whence comes that vail of sorrow
Echoing ev'rywhere?
Tears in the sailor's lonely cot,
And the home of the millionaire?
Fast speeds the direful message:
Two Thousand lost at sea!
Brave ones who sang as they faced their doom:
"Nearer, my God, to Thee."

[chorus 1]
Down sank the great Titanic
Into the yawning sea;
But the heroes sang as the ship went down,
"Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee."

[verse 2]
"Save first the babes and women
Then we will die like men"
Will such a choir of voices sweet,
Ever be heard again?
Out speed the loaded lifeboats,
Brave men can do no more,
Hark! 'tis the song of the rescued now:
"Row, brothers! row for shore.

[chorus 2]
Down sank the great Titanic
Into the yawning sea;
But the heroes sang as the ship went down,
"Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee."

[verse 3]
Not on the battle field alone,
Are heroes names enrolled.
Only Eternity's dawning morn.
Shall that great list unfold,
Carve deep their names on Honor's scroll
Heroes who met their doom,
Calm to the last by their faith upheld;
Sank in that icy tomb.

[chorus 3]
Ocean! now chant their requiem
Sleeping beneath the sea;
"Heroes," who sang as the ship went down,
"Nearer, my God, to Thee,
Nearer to Thee."
