21:07 (2:24 p.m. EST, 3:24 a.m. Tuesday in Manila). Program interruption: First to San Francisco, then immediately to Bert Silan from Manila--Manila is being bombed. It's uncanny the way the Japanese have picked out military objectives. Description of the bombing is transmitted live.
Don Bell reports large fires are burning but it does seem that the Japanese planes have left. The bombing has not been indiscriminate. They had a specific target. Antiaircraft guns were in action. Bert Silan then heads up to the roof to see what he can see. Japanese bombers are still overhead after all. There were raids on other parts of the Philippines earlier, including on Clark Field. There's a report of 300 casualties, and 25 American bombers destroyed in that raid. There are reports that Corregidor was bombed. It seems that gasoline stores were hit. Don keeps reporting while waiting for Bert Silan to make it up to the roof. Commentary on FDR's speech. Antiaircraft fires starts up again.

38:53: Bert Silan has made it to the roof. The elevator boy ran out on them, so he had to run up 8 flights of stairs. Wallace takes over for a minute while Silan catches his breath. Report continues.
