Rising through the dense fog lying like a blanket on San Francisco Bay, appears the silhouette of an icon of penal incarceration - The Rock.
At the time of its construction Alcatraz was considered the most escape proof prison in America and a more than adequate solution to the alarming rise in organised criminal activity and violent crime which had blighted the nation. Heavily armed guards, tool-proof bars and shark-infested waters did little however to prevent some of her more creative inmates from attempting the seemingly impossible - to escape from Alcatraz Island.
Join us as we examine some of the "breaks-for-freedom"- the plans behind the attempts and determine if anyone was ever successful in defying The Rock.
