The world's tropical waters are inhabited by a fish that dwarfs all others. Off the east coast of Africa, the warm currents of the Indian Ocean play host to the whale shark, the gentle giant of the ocean. Each year, with the onset of spring, the sharks leave the equatorial waters of the Seychelles and follow these currents southwards, migrating thousands of miles along the ocean's highways to feed.
We follow one shark all the way to the stormy waters of the Cape of Good Hope in a bid to unravel the mystery of the whale shark's incredible and perilous journey.
As the tropics give way to cooler waters, the whale shark encounters diverse and spectacular marine ecosystems, brimming with exotic creatures from the smallest invertebrates to her own shark cousins. From shy whitetip reef sharks cowering in their caves to a squadron of hammerheads, we encounter 14 different species of Africa's sharks. Spectacular up-close footage, combined with the latest scientific research, sheds light on one of the ocean's great creatures.
