How, why, whether and when to search for life beyond Earth has been debated for centuries. In our own solar system we have found no signs of advanced life, though planets like Mars and the large moon of Titan may have provided suitable environments for life in the past.

It is an enormous task to search the skies for intelligent life, looking for a golden needle in a huge cosmic haystack. S.E.T.I. (the Search for Extra Terrestrial Intelligence) has taken up this quest. A belief that there are other intelligent races out there in the depths of space, and that one day we will make contact with them.
