Comedy routines were a common genre of recorded sound in the early 1900s. The vast majority of them used caricatures based on ethnicity, race, and geography. Comedy routines that depict racial stereotypes are covered in the Diversity section. Other ethnic and rural comedy routines are presented here. Most notable is a large collection of "Uncle Josh" routines performed by Cal Stewart. This topic will be covered in more detail in the future. In the meantime, this archive is presented. |
