The Motor Girl
Lyric by Charles J. Campbell
Music by Julian Edwards

[verse 1]
A girl with a book in a hammock,
As she gracefully swung to and fro,
Was the dream of the men in the summer,
A very few seasons ago
The hammock gave way to lawn tennis,
And then came the "bike" for a whirl;
Like shadows in light they all fade out of sight,
giving place to the Motor girl.

[chorus]
She's a sprinter in the Winter,
Through the Spring Hold the men in thrall.
New loves meeting,
pleasures fleeting,
life's a merry whirl
For the daring, scaring, flashing, dashing Motor girl

[verse 2]
Our grandmothers sat weaving laces,
Or embroidering tapestry frames
Imagine the look on their faces
Had they witnessed our up-to-date games
Girls yachting, girls wheeling, girls rowing,
Or bathing, where high breakers curl;
And to crown all of these,
watch a forty mile breeze
kiss the cheeks of a Motor Girl.

[repeat chorus]
