[verse 1]
Young August Brown, was expected in Town,
To visit his sweetheart Miss Layne;
Without hesitation,
She went to the station,
To meet her dear boy at the train.
Dear August said she,
you must come home with me,
The folks will expect you to dine,
Do not look for a car,
just wait where you are
It's the Jitney, the Jitney for mine.

[chorus]
We'll take a ride in a Jitney Bus,
Come on dear Gus,
There's room for us,
Right from the station to anywhere,
Ev'ry one thinks they're find
The trolly will soon be a thing of the past,
The Jitney has come and its going to last,
Ev'ry one likes them they travel so fast,
So a ride in the Jitney for mine.

[verse 2]
Gus said to May as they sped on their way;
They're going to have trouble I fear
For I've just been reading
how some folks are pleading,
To banish the Jitney from here.
Miss Layne said she knew
certain people felt blue,
But it matters not how they feel,
All the trolly kings know
their system is slow.
For they all use the Automobile

[repeat chorus]
