Across the Rio Grande

Our Uncle Sam is mild,
But now they've got him riled,
He's ready to say "Boys let'er go"
They'll fire that old salute,
Or else we'll have to shoot,
And start something in Mexico.
Our soldiers stand on the Rio Grande,
Our watchful waiting is thru,
They'll holler too, for the old Red, White and Blue,
When we shout "Remember the Alamo."

[chorus]
It's just the same old story,
They've got to cheer Old Glory,
We're slow to begin,
But once we're in,
We'll fight on till we win.
And Uncle Sammy's nephews
Are waiting his command,
When up those hills we climb,
There'll be a hot old time across the Rio Grande.

The Dove of Peace has flown,
To other parts unknown,
Our brave dogs of war are on the trail,
We've got to show the world,
That once our flag's unfurled,
It spells only two words "Never Fail."
Our boys that pine on the boarder line,
For Uncle Sammy's command, Will strike at last
To avenge the insults past,
And plant Stars and Stripes o'er the Rio Grande.

[repeat chorus]

And now the war's begun,
And ev'ry mother's son,
Is ready to start for Mexico,
Along the Rio Grande,
Each Texas Ranger band,
Is crazy to hear that they can go,
From Dixie, too, come the boys in blue,
From California to Maine,
By land or sea
All our boys are wild to be,
The first in the city of Mexico.

[repeat chorus]
