Love Sometimes Has to Wait

Performed by Corporal Ziggy Lane
Recorded 1943
From the Fort Hamilton Show "Stars and Gripes"

If there's anything wrong with you, you report to the First Sergeant, and he puts your name in the sick book. And then you report to the infirmary, where they fix you up. The only soldier the medic never seem able to cure, is the guy suffering from good ol' love sickness. One fellow who really has it bad is our corporal, Ziggy Lane, who is always singing about his love that has to wait.

So it happened, finally Cupid came and knocked us
So it happened, quick like a shot
So it happened, Mr. love sneaked up and socked us
So it happened. And so what?
I hadda go back today my leave was over
There was so much we hadn't mentioned yet
If these were normal times we'd be [?]
Hunting two rooms and a kitchenette
Forty minutes in Times Square
Gee, it ain't fair
I guess we're not the only ones that found
That nowadays love may get pushed around
Oh, two hearts in rhyme there's no depending
The happy ending isn't running on time
Love sometimes has to wait
Sometimes threre's no way but to say so long
[?] sometimes twist with fate
Sometimes lovers part at the start of the song
There's a duty to be done, instead of it
There's a war that must be won, ahead of it, and so
Let's not say goodbye, it won't be too late
We can wait, love and I
