Ballad of Watergate

Performed by Jay Lee & Michael Vee
Recorded c. 1974
Written by Angello, Maconi, Albright

Early in the summer of '72
There sat a bunch of people with nothing to do
So they made up a plan and they made up a scheme
About how to invade the American dream

They put a bug here and they put a bug there
They figured, "what the hell, we'll put them everywhere"
Then they pulled off a break-in that was second-rate
And now it's come to be known as Watergate

Haldeman Ehrlichman, Magruder and more
Defendants are falling like flies on the floor
But tricky Dicky says that he doesn't know why
The people don't believe his alibi

They had a tape recorder for the words that were said
But every now and then the damn thing would go dead
You'll never tie me in with those dirty tricks
And I ain't gonna leave until '76

Now in the summer of '74
The leaders who were leading aren't leading no more
But you can still find them if you've got the time
Standing in the unemployment line
Haldeman Ehrlichman, Magruder and more

Haldeman Ehrlichman, Magruder and more
Defendants are falling like flies on the floor
But tricky Dicky says that he doesn't no why
The people don't believe his alibi
