Our Story

The History on the Net website began life in November 2000. The site has grown considerably to nearly two million monthly views. Despite its growth, our aims remain the same: to provide historical information that is simple for views of all ages to navigate, is written in accessible language, and makes learning straightforward.

The mission of the site is to explore neglected or forgotten corners of history that changed the world, no matter how strange or controversial. We have blogged on the U.S. Army’s failed experiment to use camels as pack animals in the 1840s southwest, failed presidential assassination attempts, and first-hand accounts of the Invasion of Normandy.

On this site, you will find information about the ancient world, World Wars One and Two, a comprehensive history of the United States, and the major events of the 20th century.

You can also find worksheets and study guides on all these topics. Click on the navigation menu above to see all the educational resources we have.
